Marvel: Xmen Days of Future Past
« on: 04/06/12*, 02 »
Just announced today, Xmen First Class 2 will start shooting in.....  JANUARY!!!

Matthew Vaughn had already signed on to return to the director's chair. However, the bigger question was how scheduling would work out around Jennifer Lawrence with Fox and Lionsgate battling for position with their franchise movies as both studios were looking at the fall to get the X-MEN sequel and CATCHING FIRE in the can. Fox could have pulled rank, as their option on Lawrence returning as Mystique trumped whatever Lionsgate had in their contract language, but a compromise has been reached with Lawrence shooting the second chapter of THE HUNGER GAMES trilogy beginning in August or September in order to be freed up for X-MEN at the beginning of next year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

We should be hearing a lot on both projects fairly soon as CATCHING FIRE will need to move forward with finding a new director now that Gary Ross is out and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS 2 will be in the market to cast some new characters

Good to hear.  I went in with no expectations that First Class would be any good at all and was incredibly surprised.  They threw continuity out the window and STILL made a great movie.

And I'm even more surprised to hear that it shouldn't conflict with Hunger Games 2, although I didn't think they had said 100% that Gary Ross was completely out.  Last I heard was Wednesday that negotiations weren't going well.

gnomester, i totally agree with you on the first one.  I was expecting it to be HORRIBLE and i wound up loving it.   I heard a rumor that they want to bring in another historical event for this one and one thing they were toying with was the JFK assassination

When this movie was on the way to coming out I gave it a total pass on the movie poster alone which was one of the laziest sloppiest and just downright awful movie posters Id seen in years....

...well ya know what they say about judging a book by its cover, and well I was totally wrong cause the movie was fantastic and a completely fun experience.

Definitely excited about another installment especially with the same creative team behind the camera and in front.

Yep, and very excited that most of the cast seems to be returning.  I thought that NO ONE could ever play Xavier & Magneto again after seeing Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen do it.  But McAvoy & Fassbender did a fantastic job, and those are some HUGE acting shoes to fill.  Can't wait for the next one!

I was having so many problems with the movie but when you just set back and watch it and pretend you don't own or have read any X-men comic books its a good movie.  I love the fact that they used the Hellfire Club.  I have always love them and wish they would release those comic book characters.

monitorep - I think that was the problem most people had with the movie, at least thats what I heard the most from people.

Personally I try and go into all movies with a blank slate and expect nothing and let it be what it is cause otherwise you tend to put stipulations on things and ruin what could otherwise be a fun experience for yourself.

I let it be what it was and totally enjoyed the hell out of it.

I think they saw the performance of the last movie (thanks Brett Ratner you piece of Q@#%?@#$&$^*) and realized that it was too big a risk to take at that point.

I mean I'm just guessing but all the toys from the first set of xmovies were pretty bad pretty much across the board and they slowly moved away from the marketing push with movie related toys with there being hardly anything for the third movie at all.

If I remember correctly the movie didn't even have a line proper and was put into the LEGENDS line, which can I say, were among the worst LEGENDS figures ever made!

Fox envisioned X-Men: First Class as the first film of a new trilogy.  Simon Kinberg, who co-wrote X-Men: The Last Stand and co-produced X-Men: First Class, will write the sequel.  Both Matthew Vaughn and Bryan Singer will return to direct and produce the sequel, respectively.  The sequel is set to begin filming in January 2013, when Jennifer Lawrence has finished shooting the film adaptation of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games.  The sequel for First Class is scheduled for a release on July 18, 2014.  In summer 2012, Singer said of the film, still being scripted, that, "It's called Days of Future Past."

It seems Mark Millar is already hard at work as the creative consultant for Fox on their Marvel properties. He spoke with SFX magazine (via Total Film) about the upcoming X-Men: First Class sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, and it sounds exciting.

"Vaughn is going for a big sci-fi style thing with X-Men: Days of Future Past," Millar said. "It's X-Men meets The Terminator, You've got robots, you've got time travel, you've got superheroes - it's got everything in one film."

So it sounds like those pesky Sentinels will finally be making their way to the big screen in more than just the Danger Room.

The film is currently slated to begin production in January of 2013 with a target release date of July 18, 2014.

More names added to the movie:

Ian McKellen (Magneto) and Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier) are confirmed. Now we can add 3 more names to the list thanks to director Bryan Singer: Anna Paquin (Rogue), Shawn Ashmore (Iceman), and Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde).

X-Men fans getting their hopes up to see Peter Dinklage play Puck in 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past may have to reset - Variety is reporting Thursday afternoon the Game of Thrones actor is playing a villain. Citing unnamed sources the Hollywood trade doesn't identify the villain by name, but describes him as the film's "main antagonist."

Ahab and Nimrod come immediately to mind of comic book fans familiar with the original comic book story, but we'll wait to see if any of the other Hollywood trades or Singer follow up with any new insight. Ahab really didn't have much to do in the original storyline, rather his character was followed up on in later stories. Nimrod might surprise viewers - while a Sentinel (and thus, a robot), the character can shapeshift and often takes human form. With Dinklage playing the ultimate mutant hunter (Nimrod actually means Hunter), we could see a very cold, creepy take.

20th Century Fox
‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ the follow-up to ‘First Class,’ is combining both new and old casts of the film franchise for one large time-travel adventure. Though we’ve only seen pics from the pre-production stages, we now have a first look at one of the characters: Beast! And it looks like he’s going through some new changes.

Director Bryan Singer has been working diligently to keep us all up to date on the project, and his latest tidbit comes in the form of a first look at Beast’s slightly revamped appearance for ‘Days of Future Past.’ When Nicholas Hoult‘s Dr. Hank McCoy first unleashed the Beast in ‘First Class,’ we saw a very animalistic creature take his place, but now some of his features seem to be altered in favor of more human-like qualities.

Will this new look make it into the final cut? Time will tell, but he certainly wouldn’t be the only character getting a makeover of sorts. Hoult’s co-star and former girlfriend Jennifer Lawrence revealed a while back that her allergic reactions to the Mystique makeup in ‘First Class’ prompted the creation of an alternate jumpsuit-like costume for her.

But we digress. First, take a look at some concept art for Beast in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’:
