YJ toy cancellation speculation
« on: 05/21/12*, 12 »
Although I'm loving the new season of YJ, it has really gotten a lot darker than the first season.  I wonder if the darker tone of the second season in any way contributed to the dicontinuation of the toys.  Kinda hard to market costume variations for characters who turned evil, died, retired, became possibly drug addicted baby daddy clones, etc.

DUDE, SPOILERS!

I mean I've seen it but not everyone has. I'm not sure one way or the other but I wont be sad to see an overpriced undervalue item like young justice be done with honestly.

That is true, it would be hard to keep up with the first season of figures.

I'm wondering if Mattel didnt have to cancel YJ along with DC All Stars and everything else toy wise because of orders from DC? Maybe they had to pull the plug on everything so they could restart it all with DCnU/New52 stuff. Just a thought. It would be easier to spin it as a lack of sales instead of looking like they dont know how to run their merchandising

They had to cancel it because...

1. Character selection was bad for the umpteenth time

2. Price was way too high on every item

3. Case packouts were as dumb as ever

4. Cartoon Network took almost two years to air the first season and get it in a decent time slot

That's what happened.

agreed ... I still see shelves littered with Aqualad, Speedy and Icicle ... and TRU is swimming in Aquaman 2 packs.

Mattel sucks, that could have somethng to do with it. Even when they are as wrong as wrong could be they never admit to a mistake and tend to blame the buyers with crap like lack of demand. If there was such a lack of demand for JLU then why produce the lost figures? I certainly do not believe they are doing it for the fans. I feel all YJ proto's seen on ebay will be offered on matty eventually just like JLU. Just my opinion.

If they end up at clearance then I will laugh my fat bottom off hahaha!
Also I will buy them on the cheap which I plan on doing anyway and still laugh my butt off when people over buy them and then sell them cheap cause nobody wants them.

Bad news Target went uo with the small YJ figures to $10.49 and lowered the big figures to $10.49.

:clap This is a great debate and discussion.I like both of your points, but  Mattel is in it to make money in whatever way they can,and theres nothing wrong in that.If you don't like something, don't buy it.
There may have been some nudging on TG part, but money was already invested in the "missing JLU".To make these just for the fans for sentimental reasons, is ludicrous and just isn't good business sense. There has to be a return on monies invested. If there was any sentimentality involved, the remaining Legion Of Doom would have been offered to us fans or something to that degree.

I don't think we're getting these purely because TG wanted them and it was sentimental. They would never make them if they weren't going to make a profit. The tooling and development costs were already sunk into these and they want something back for it.

They are probably getting ready to take them to clearance. Probably tag them at $7.75 to start. I think it's crappy when stores raise the price on something before going to clearance.

I was just thinking, YJ is cancelled ... does that mean we could see some sort of relaunch as Young Justice: Invasion? Justice League and JLU were often considered separate lines. Just a thought.

I could list any number of reasons why I think this line failed.  Price.  Distribution.  Value.  Playability.  Gap in cartoon.  Awful awful poses.  Any one of those would be enough to sink most lines.  But all of them at once?  Disaster.

Am I happy the line failed?  No.  Am I going to miss it?  Not for one minute, other than from the standpoint of what might have been.
